In America it isn’t often that we eat only bread and water for dinner. In fact, prisoners are fed better than people in third world countries. Our necessary food is often exceeded by snacks and desserts. If you are anything like me you are likely thinking about food. Some plan out their next meal and others collect and swap recipes. We even dream about our favorite meals and look forward to that great restaurant we’ve been hearing about. The Bible should be our souls necessary sustenance.
I have not departed from the commandment of His lips;I have treasured the words of His mouth More than my necessary food.
Necessary for Job and Necessary for us. If anyone had an awful situation it was Job. He was in turmoil to near death, with his children dead, his friends accusing him of sin, and his wife saying “curse God and die.” In Jobs utter ruin he make this statement that he has treasured the Word more than his necessary food. I am challenged by that statement are you?
The necessity of heavenly food. Our souls need God’s word. Jesus said “Man shall not live by bread alone but every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” The Christian should consume the Word of God as if it were food. It should be our sustenance that are delighted to receive.
How do you find time to read the scriptures? Is it a habit? In the morning, noon, and night?
