February 20th 2010 The Lord’s Day

Every Sunday we have the great and high privilege to receive the Word of God. My wife and I attend Beaverton Grace Bible Church which we have been attending for some years now. It has been a blessing to us both to mature us and grow us in the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. I would like to point out a portion of scripture that was preached upon this morning.

Evangelism requires preaching repentance and faith. The pastor has been preaching from Hebrews 2 about neglecting so great a salvation which was first heard from our Lord. In hearing the first words of our Lord’s ministry we read: “From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” (Matthew 4:17) Again in Mark 1:15 “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.” If Jesus, our Lord and Savior, called men to repent and believe is it up to us to devise different methods? No, Jesus called men to repent even with a loud voice as seen in John 7:37. This is what every Lord’s day should be like. One preaching the word of God and may we do likewise.

Jesus commissions us to preach the good news. Evangelism is the Christian purgative with Jesus final words to “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” Mark 16 With such a commission we are left with a commandment that shouldn’t be ignored. The end of Mark concludes with the Apostles obeying that command through preaching the Word everywhere. I suspect our Pastor is headed there in the next section.

Let me ask you friend how are you preaching the word? May I encourage you to share with those who haven’t heard to repent and believe the gospel. It is your great privilege to God’s glory!
